These photos are from when my brother and Chelsey came out to live with us for a bit, this past winter (December 2011).

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
- the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other; then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

Music Monday

M. Ward’s newest album A Wasteland Companion, contrary to what you might read in the Pitchfork review, is overwhelmingly refreshing.  Yes, he continues to write on themes such as time and love, and it might be my partialness to both M. Ward and those themes, but I find this album vibrant and full.

I have to admit, when I heard the single for this album, Primitive Girl, some time ago on NPR’s World Cafe, I was unsure how I would feel about the album.  It was boppy with that driving force from the piano and there was nothing wrong with the song, but I felt unmoved.  It might have just been that I was driving in traffic that put the improper taste in my mouth though.

It was Ward’s Me and My Shadow that solidified my fondness for this album.  The guitar lead drew me in, but it was the distorted grit of the song and Deschanel’s haunting  background vocals that held me.  I have listened to this song OVER AND OVER.

And yes, Ward covers another Johnston tune on this album, titled Sweetheart, (another bullet point from the Pitchfork review) but my boyfriend made such a wonderful point saying that it is a GREAT thing that Matthew Ward covers Johnston’s tunes.  Johnston’s songs are often inaccessible to many, whether for the way they were recorded, or just because it takes a particular ear to enjoy listening to his music.  The fact is, Johnston was a songwriter and had great songs.  AND I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH.  I can just imagine Chad and I dancing to this song sometime soon in our living room.

Enjoy my favorite song of this album, Me and My Shadow.  I know that I am.

I cannot wait.

I know I usually just post music on Mondays, but I LOVE George, therefore; enjoy this.

All Things Must Pass is one of my favorite albums, and the outtakes are SO good.

I am so happy that we are over that rainy/snowy/whatever weather that we had the past two days.  This outfit is sort of a celebration of having the sun back out again, and is SUPER girly.  Maybe a little too girly in retrospect, but I’ll rock it today.  If I were to wear this outfit on my own time this weekend instead of going to work, I definitely would edge it up a bit and take off the tank underneath and replace it with a bandeau top, maybe add some studded accessories and go with some black suede wedges.

I’m also so glad Spring is here!  I can’t believe how quickly April has snuck up, and I’m excited to see what the rest of this year brings forth.  We already have flowers blooming in our front yard, and I love being able to hang out on our porch.  I think growing up in a small farm town has made me always want to be outside.

Next week the kids at my club have their spring break, so I will be working different hours, which will be nice because it won’t be dark when I get out of work.  It is going to be great.

Oh, and April is Poetry Month, so I am taking this month as a chance to set aside more time for my writing.  Creativity has been flowing at an unbelievable rate, so hopefully my collection will be finished by the end of spring.  It seems fitting, but I’m not sure if I am really prepared for my first collection to come out.  Well, I guess we will see.
